pink frosting

It is a cold day here in Toronto.

Dad and I went down to the lake to take a look and drink a coffee.

The light was a lovely soft pink.

We saw this couple frolicking along the shore.

Shortly after this glorious sunset we set off for home

where Mum had prepared a warm and delicious supper that included a bowl of soup the colour of the setting sun.

distractions

My sister left today and we won't see her IRL for at least six months. We always feel sad as we wave goodbye. This time she gave Mum and Dad a postcard of this painting before she left.

It is called The Opening of the Modern Foreign and Sargent Galleries at the Tate Gallery, 26 June 1926 by John Lavery and was presented by Lord Duveen in 1930.

Dad immediately got out the magnifying glass to try and read the tiny text under the painting.

To no avail as it turns out. So we searched it on the internet and tried via tablets. Still no luck but it is keeping us busy and for that we are grateful.

Update: @BellaMFG sent this link and this message: Ok, had to check this out... The small print at the bottom is actually the names of everyone in the painting. At the bottom of the painting, click on the largest pixel. If you have an ipad, you can zoom and read the names.

anniversary

It has been exactly a year since my last post over here and look where I am again.

This time the dratted east gate was open!

We listened to some War of 1812 re-enacters play God Save the Monarch and wandered about a bit.

My Dad has lots of friends at Fort York. They treated us to a coffee.

The city treated everyone to water.

And the best willow ever provided the shade.

After Fort York we walked to the lake

and paid tribute to a more recent war.

(I forgot my camera so these are all phone pics.)
